“You owe yourself the love that you so freely give to other people.”
Alexandra Elle
I need to learn to love myself.
Have you ever heard someone say that? Have you ever said it yourself?
I had a misconception that the ability to love myself was some elusive concept, out there in the distance somewhere, that I was striving for. If I could reach that goal, I’d have it figured out. If I could just learn how to love myself, then I could allow a man to love me and maybe, just maybe, I could have a successful relationship.
Then one glorious day, as I sat on my faithful yoga mat, in that yoga class I chose to attend, at that ashram in the Bahamas I took myself to for 3 months…I had an emotional breakthrough.
I already know how to love myself! And I’m doing it every day.
It’s not elusive, out there in the distance, it’s right here within my spirit. I just have to practice it. Just like returning to my yoga mat every day makes me more flexible, the practice of loving myself will become second nature. And I’m an over-achiever, I don’t do things half way, I dominate! So you better believe I’m going to get darn good at loving myself.
It’s astonishing how my reality has changed since I changed my perception.
I’m single, so I date, but I don’t sit around waiting for a guy to choose me. I choose myself.
I’m a blogger, social networking is an important part of my business, so all those “likes” from my followers are great, but they’re extra, because I wake up every morning and like myself.
Demonstrate love by giving it, unconditionally to yourself. And as you do, you will attract others into your life who will love you without conditions.
What if you simply devoted this day, this week, this month, this year, to loving yourself?
